The Story of the Cover
When I first met with Jonathan Weir and Jonathan Sansome from the Dublin Simon Community they told me about another fundraising project that was launching that week - The IN SIGHT Project. Kicking off in April 2015, Lynsey Browne and Lucy Ryan devised the IN SIGHT project to help raise awareness and funds for homelessness through the lens of those who have lived it.
With a background in the creative industry they approached the Dublin Simon Community with their idea of a photography from the perspective of the homeless community. Three classes were held in a Dublin Simon Community building on Capel Street, where Des Byrne (founder of the Irish Street photography group) gave an inspirational talk on street photography to include composition, angles and camera tips. An afternoon in the Capuchin Day Centre brought the total number of participants to 45. The results have been thought-provoking, heart-breaking and humorous, a selection of which featured in a month long exhibition in the Powerscourt Centre, South William Street in 2016.
I was so inspired by Lynsey and Lucy's project that I thought would it be wonderful to use one of these photographs for the cover of Looking At The Stars. Thanks to the help of my brilliant friend and designer Fintan Wall we managed to adapt a beautiful photograph called 'Me, Myself and I' taken by Tomasz and Grainne Clear transformed it into the final cover.
A selection of photos from The IN SIGHT Project are available to view at theinsightproject.ie. By purchasing a photo you will receive a beautiful piece of art and will help to combat homelessness in Ireland.
